Paint Color Selection Process
Step One
Paint color specification is an iterative process that starts on site with the client. The first step is to understand the fixed colors in the space (flooring, tile, counters, metals, fireplace surrounds and so on). For exteriors, these may include walkways and other hardscape.
Step Two
We then discuss a client’s color preferences—often imbued with history and meaning—and how these preferences would relate to the fixed colors.
Step Three
Once a color direction is chosen, we provide 6”x9” color swatches, and the client examines them at various times of day on each of four walls. If necessary, this direction is further refined.
Step Four
Once a final color choice is made, paint is purchased, and two-coat 3’x3’ samples are once again examined by the client under different lighting conditions. Once we have a ‘go’, we produce a set of paint color and sheen specifications and collaborate with the painter.
